Futera United remain top of the Bangkok Premier League Div 4 and on course for the title after a 2-1 win against Hua Samrong FC. In an enthralling, feisty encounter, at a rain lashed Nonthaburi Wittayalai School, Hua Samrong FC were worthy adversaries, not only in terms of talent but also professionalism, but in the end Futera showed what a good side they are and ran out worthy winners.
Another new centre back pairing saw Futera kick off with Basil and Owen at the heart of the defence and the home side went close inside the first minute when Save was inches away from connecting with Nu’s deep cross. Hua Samrong grew into the game and their aggressive press was disrupting Futera’s passing game, while their talented left winger was causing numerous problems on the flank with Film having to make several important interceptions. In the 23rd minute a delightful 50 yard diagonal ball from Basil played in Kao but he snatched at his shot and fired wide, minutes later from a similar position the same player was denied by a fine save from the Hua Samrong keeper. Kao was a constant threat and a 25 yard dipping strike flew inches over the bar.
Futera opened the scoring on the half hour mark when Phu got away on the right flank and seeing that the Hua Samrong keeper had strayed from his line, anticipating a cross, he intelligently fired home into an empty net. 5 minutes later Phu had the chance to extend Futera’s lead but his shot was smothered by the Hua Samrong keeper, who was having a fine game.
Futera started the second half strongly and the introduction of Gael, Bank and Don gave the team fresh impetus. In the 53rd Gael, who was looking sharp, cut inside the Hua Samrong full back and unleashed a curling shot that was scrambled away for a corner. Futera’s bright start was rewarded when after excellent interchange play between Ice and Bank, Kao clinically chipped the on rushing Hua Samrong to make the score 2-0. With Futera seemingly now in control, sloppy play in the midfield allowed Hua Samrong to break and their winger was clumsily brought down for a penalty by the out of sorts John. From the spot the Hua Samrong centre forward blazed high over the bar, much to the relief of the Futera fans. The penalty miss spurred on Hua Samrong and they roared back and their efforts were rewarded with 10 minutes to go when a low cross from the left was prodded home to make the score 2-1. Futera’a defence stood firm and they saw out the remaining minutes to earn a crucial three points in their quest for the title.
A hard fought win for Futera cements their place at the top of the table and the undefeated season is still on. The game finished on a rather unsavoury moment with both teams involved in an altercation which shouldn’t overshadow the excellent performance of both teams. Nu put in a solid performance and Film made some great saves when called upon. Futera are now firmly in the box seat with the destiny of the title in their own hands in what could be an epic season for this fledgling team.
